High School Dive ProgramDoes the thought of swimming below the waves side by side with beautiful fish and turtles get you trying to remember what drawer your bathing suit is in? Imagine your son or daughter brought you a list of activities they could participate in and scuba diving was a choice! For our Citrus County kids this is a reality not a fantasy. Our scuba diving clubs have been successful for years with our local high schools and are to date still certifying new members, going on diving trips, and giving back to the environment with community outreach programs. Dive clubs are becoming more popular due to diving’s fun and the ability to accept everyone. Everyone who wants to can become a scuba diver with very few exceptions. Competition is now with yourself to improve your diving ability rather than earn a starting role on a team. This encourages cooperation and outreach. Our local clubs participate in coastal clean ups, hydrilla removal dives, and wetland protection. All club members are certified as Padi Open Water divers. This certification will give club members the ability to dive anywhere in the world for the rest of their life! They learn about physics of diving, general dive safety, and the aquatic realm while experiencing it. Many of our club members go on to add specialized skills such as underwater photography, search and recovery, and fish identification just to name a few. Our high school students also use their public outreach programs to qualify for community service requirements on college applications and scholarship requests. |
